Learn the language of cakes

This is an ombre drip cake; my signature style.  You can opt for shades of a single colour as here, or ombre from one into another.  I have added some edible 24ct gold leaf for extra luxury, and a marble-effect board, which can be wiped clean and reused if you are careful when cutting.

The piped buttercream effect around the top of this cake is called a rope border. The pink border around the base is a shell border.

Rather than fondant modelling, I advocate buying figurines in advance which can be kept and played with for years.  You can do this

The top of this stunning extra-tall ombre cake has a natural edge, which I have made a feature by painting it gold.

This cake is set off by a white marble-effect board.
